*Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - The Charlotte Bobcats have relieved head coach Mike Dunlap of his duties after one season.
The Bobcats finished with the second-worst record in the league this past season at 21-61, one game ahead of the Orlando Magic.
"(General manager) Rich Cho and I conducted our season-ending review and met with coach Dunlap to reflect on this season. As an organization, it was decided that we needed to make a change with the head coach position," said Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said in a statement Tuesday. "We want to thank Mike for his contribution and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Dunlap replaced Paul Silas after the Bobcats posted the worst winning percentage in league history (.106) with a 7-59 record last season.*
So the Bobcats fired this Mike Dunlap guy, I have no idea who he is. At first I thought it said Mike Dunleavy, then I re-read it and said, nope that’s some other guy. He looks like the plainest dude alive. If you took a photo of him without the crowd behind him, maybe one of those professional work photos I would guess maybe he was a mortgage officer or a lawyer, not an NBA head coach. I looked at his Wikipedia page…wow. He coached a team whose nickname was the 36ers. Enough said.
Not this guys fault though he got fired, he was coaching the equivalent to a biddy-ball team. The Bobcats are a disaster and their future is as bright as Farrah from 'Teen Mom'. At this point is there a coach that could help them, or should they just save that salary and let the team go out and play without coaches? Would it really be that big of a difference? Enjoy your buy out Mike Dunlap, whoever you are.
Oh by the way… Gene Chizik will make over $208,000 a MONTH off of Auburn for the next three years if he doesn’t take another job, after being fired by Auburn. Wait, what's that? He only gets that money if Auburn stays clean from NCAA violations or sanctions? Better look for a new gig there Gene!
